the_dala as part of a challenge. 150 words.
Will had not tasted cow’s milk for almost twelve years. There was no place for cows to properly live in Port Royal and it was impossible to transport their milk here before it spoiled.
He remembered how sweet it had tasted when he had gotten some early in the morning, fresh from the udders and chilled by the cold air. He usually thought about it after eating cheeses – they were never anything like the milk itself.
Milk itself in this part of the world was usually restricted to the nobles. He had drunk more of it in the past ten months of marriage than in the ten years before.
It was usually restricted to the nobles, true. Usually. But not always.
He smiled as he watched Elizabeth guide their daughter’s mouth to her breast.
He wondered how much time would pass before she forgot the taste of her mother’s milk.
