fabu. The gem used is an aquamarine, which is Keira Knightley's birthstone.
Elizabeth opened the small package carefully. The gifts sent to her were never of the same type twice in a row and she’d found that care counted more than eagerness after dropping a small glass bird that had taken the maid almost an hour to clean up.
Her husband watched her open it, not interfering in any way. It had been addressed to her, after all.
“Oh,” she said when she saw what was inside. She lifted out the necklace carefully and held it up for him to see. It was fine gold with a blue gemstone swinging gently from it, the maker’s handiwork obvious in his skill.
James couldn’t hide his surprise. “It must have cost him a month’s earnings to pay for that.”
“There’s more.” Elizabeth lifted out a small piece of parchment, Will’s handwriting covering nearly all the available space.
“May I read it?”
“After I’ve finished,” she said with more than a hint of smugness. A grin lit up her face when she reached the end.
“Look,” she pointed at the only corner devoid of writing. “He kissed the paper there.” Deliberately, she brought it up to her mouth and gave it a small kiss.
Grinning like a little girl, she got up and kissed her husband as well.
Shared kisses were best when all three were present, but there was no way Will could leave the Caribbean for England, especially in wintertime.
The three of them made do. And sometimes, like now, it was enough.
